Why I Love Music

“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and life to everything” - Plato

Music is one of the biggest influences in culture today. With thousands of different styles and genres throughout the world, it’s one of the things that brings people together, creating communities. Music is so much more than catchy lyrics or some instruments spilling noise. Music is a feeling that’s been made into something physical. It’s an emotion that has been turned into something we can hear and feel. It’s like a living soul that affects all of us on a daily basis, and the world wouldn’t be the same without it.

No matter who you are or what you’re into, there’s a style of music for you. Maybe you were born and raised on a small farm in Montana and you find yourself happiest while listening to country music. Maybe you grew up in a very high class environment and you feel relaxed and peaceful listening to classical piano music. Or maybe you’re from the heart of Chicago and enjoy old school hip hop and R&B, there’s a style for everyone that sparks joy and brings people together.

Music truly is a feeling and it has the ability to affect how we feel, that’s what I love about it. It can be a profound song with lyrics that pull at our heart strings, or a mess of loud sounds that somehow go together in a way that causes us to jump around and headbang. This is one of the many reasons I’ve always been so fascinated with the subject and have spent a good portion of my life learning about all aspects of music. From classical composition to sound design and electronic production, it all sparks this interest in me that keeps me busy constantly. This short article is meant to be a simple appreciation post for music and the effect it has on the world. However, as time goes on and I continue to write on this blog, I look forward to sharing more on the subject, because music is truly my greatest passion.
