Life Lessons I’ve Learned Through Making Music
There’s honestly so many things I’ve learned throughout my musical journey. It’s hard to chose where to start, but the biggest and most valuable lesson I have learned so far begins with the start of my producing endeavor.
When I finally decided that I wanted to take my musical talents outside of just playing instruments, I didn’t even know where to start. For the last few years of my life I’ve been surrounded by people in the music industry. The most influential of those is an long-time friend of mine. Someone who recently made it big, and now has a career as a professional artist.
I remember talking to my friend one night about how I had these big dreams, but didn’t know how to accomplish them, his words spawned the start of something that would change my life. From what I remember, the conversation went a little something like this.
‘It’s not about how you accomplish you dreams man, It’s about how you CHASE them. It’s how you get up everyday with a goal in mind. It’s about chasing that goal regardless of what people say to you, regardless of the things that slow you down, and regardless of the doubt you’ll have at times. You can’t ever give up or settle for less than what you want. If this is your dream, then get out there and make it happen’
These words had a massive impact on my life, so much so that the next day I started doing research on how to start producing. I learned about different softwares I could use, different styles of music, different ways to get your sounds, and all the necessary equipment needed to get started.
Although money was pretty tight for me at the time, I managed to scrape enough together to finish off a small studio setup (which you can see on my main blog page) and the software I needed to get started, and from there I took off chasing my dream.
Through all the trial and error, hurtful comments from people who wanted to cut me down, hours upon hours of lost sleep, and failure to create what I had in mind. I learned one of the most important life lessons I will ever come across. That no matter what you encounter. No matter what others say. No matter how much confidence you’re lacking, You have to keep pushing to reach your goals. You have to put in the time, stay on your grind, and give it everything you’ve got.
Because after all, it’s not how you accomplish your dreams, it’s all about the chase.
