Always Have Accountability
Today has been rough to say the least. For the last three weeks I have been in and out of the doctor's office with an infection in my jaw that I’ve already had surgery for. Today my jaw infection decided to return, which was made very obvious when I woke up in extreme pain this morning. Not only that, but the cherry on top was when I woke up very sick at the same time. Unfortunately I still have responsibilities to stay on top of that I can’t just forget about. Between Praxis and my job I couldn’t just take a day off from life. So while this will undoubtedly be a short post because I do still need to get some rest, I’d like to briefly talk about accountability seeing as those two things kept me on my game today.
There’s no denying that life has many challenges that it throws at us. We encounter roadblocks all the time that try to force us off our path. When we come across these roadblocks we are left with a choice, we can give in and stop dead in our tracks, or we can find a way around them and continue on our journey. Unfortunately, sometimes finding our way around is difficult and we would rather give up, this is where accountability can help.
When presented with a choice where it’s easier to give up, it’s nice to have someone that you’re accountable to. Today I relied on a few people like that when given the decision to either give in to my urges and spend a day in bed, or put my issues aside for a few hours to complete my responsibilities. Luckily for me I have a friend I work with who is my accountability partner, If I don't show up to work I leave him with twice the amount of work to do for the night because he has to pick up the slack. As far as Praxis,I have a friend who has agreed to check in with me every day to make sure I’m staying on top of my work. It was mostly due to not wanting to let these people down that I decided to find a way around my roadblocks. If you have a lot of responsibilities that take a lot of effort to keep up with, find someone who will hold you accountable when you start to fail. Always being kept in check is a great motivator and will change the way you see roadblocks from being a show stopper, to being an inconvenience you have to work around.
